About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Tobacco Dependency Advisor to join our team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. As a key member of our public health team, you will play a vital role in supporting patients to quit smoking and improve their overall health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with our Tobacco Dependency team to identify patients who smoke and provide them with information and support to quit.
  • Accurately record discussions with patients using an electronic proforma.
  • Collaborate with medical teams to identify inpatients who smoke and provide them with advice and guidance on how to quit.
  • Complete referrals to other agencies and organizations to support patients in their quit journey.
  • Provide smoking cessation support to patients upon discharge and offer ongoing support to help them stay on track.
  • Be competent in using Excel and spreadsheets to record data and track patient progress.
  • Stay up-to-date with any training needs and attend relevant workshops and conferences to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Offer behavioral change support and medication to aid patients in commencing their smoking cessation journey.
  • Assist with data collection and audits to ensure the effectiveness of our smoking cessation program.
  • Assist with staff training and development to ensure that all team members are equipped to provide high-quality support to patients.
Requirements
  • You will need to be passionate about improving public health outcomes for patients who smoke.
  • Deliver individualized advice and support to patients in person and over the telephone.
  • You will need to be dynamic and able to liaise with various teams to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to prioritize your workload effectively.
