About First Bus

We're one of the country's largest bus operators, investing in state-of-the-art new buses and workshops. Our engineering teams are at the forefront of bus technology, and we're looking for a skilled Service Assistant to join our team.

Job Summary

The Service Assistant will carry out routine vehicle servicing, support skilled staff, and maintain technical skills. This role requires a minimum level 1 or level 2 NVQ in a mechanical field, working experience in a mechanical capacity, and a valid UK driver's license.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine vehicle servicing and general duties in accordance with Central Engineering Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Support vehicle examiners, skilled staff, and semi-skilled staff in carrying out vehicle repairs.
  • Maintain and develop technical skills as required for the role.
  • Perform general duties, including vehicle changeovers, cleaning, and attending to vehicles on the chassis wash program.

Requirements

  • Minimum level 1 or level 2 NVQ in a mechanical field.
  • Working experience in a car mechanics, van, bus, coach, HGV, or PSV capacity.
  • Valid UK driver's license.
  • Proven work experience of safe operations of workshop equipment.
  • Ability to obtain a full PCV license and forklift truck license if required.
