Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and safety-conscious Yard and Stores Operative to join our team at Kepak McIntosh Donald. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and efficient yard area, ensuring the general upkeep of external factory/grounds/site areas, and supporting production teams as needed.

Main Responsibilities
  • Loading and Unloading Vehicles: Ensure all delivery/collection vehicles are loaded/unloaded in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Loading Containers: Load containers with cattle hides and sheep skins.
  • Yard Maintenance: Ensure the yard is in a clean, tidy, and organized state at all times, being audit-ready.
  • Stock Management: Organize and stock-check trays, packaging, etc., working with Purchasing and Operations to maintain required stock levels.
  • Packaging Delivery: Deliver packaging to departments as required.
  • Waste Management: Manage waste, including transporting waste containers and proper disposal in accordance with procedures and policies.
  • Liaising with Third Parties: Liaise with third parties for waste collection.
  • Pest Control: Clean and remove evidence of pest behavior, advise on pest control risks and issues on site.
  • Supporting Production: Assist production colleagues when required, with tasks as instructed, i.e., lifting/moving items around the yard and covering for production forklift drivers as needed.
  • Traffic Management: Understand and monitor the traffic management system and working plan of the yard.
  • Forklift Maintenance: Support the forklift maintenance program, reporting any forklift defects.
  • Animal By-Product Management: Prepare trailers with correct categorization of by-products, arrange removal of trailers during periods of non-production or low production, and arrange the rendering of by-products.
  • Hay and Straw Orders: Arrange hay and straw orders for lairage, maintaining weekly stock levels via Livestock Procurement.
  • Environmental Hazards: Monitor, identify, and address potential environmental hazards.
