About INITION

INITION is a pioneering company that has developed a groundbreaking battery production technology, significantly reducing production costs and eliminating toxic solvents. Our team is based at the Culham Campus in Oxfordshire, where we have established a pilot line and are currently building our team. At INITION, we foster a collaborative environment with minimal hierarchy, working together towards a common goal of making battery production sustainable.

Role Overview

This is a unique opportunity to take a lead in driving technology that will transform the entire battery industry. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for upgrading our current pilot line and taking the lead in designing and manufacturing the next generation of our machinery in collaboration with our chief engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical upgrades to improve efficiency and performance
  • Take ownership of a subsystem of the technology, ensuring its development and implementation
  • Manage the fabrication, installation, and testing of all upgrades
  • Lead the design and build of next-generation machinery, incorporating innovative solutions
  • Evaluate the impact of design changes on quality and performance
  • Communicate ideas and results internally across the INITION team and with external stakeholders
  • Produce and manage technical documentation, ensuring accuracy and clarity

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry or lab experience (fewer for candidates with an advanced degree)
  • Background in Mechanical Engineering, with a bias towards fabrication or product design
  • Knowledge of GD&T and CAD skills, specifically SolidWorks
  • Track record of successful R&D achievements, demonstrated through innovative designs and/or a patent portfolio
  • Well-organized and pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  • Attention to detail and ability to quickly master new technologies
  • Exceptional communication skills and collaboration abilities
  • Strong data-driven experimental design skills and analytical ability to evaluate performance from first-principles
  • Experience with control systems, automation, and mechatronics is a bonus
