Cellular Pathologist Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cellular Pathologist Consultant to join our team at East and North Herts NHS Trust. As a key member of our pathology department, you will play a vital role in providing a comprehensive Cellular Pathology service to our patients.

• Participate in surgical cutup, surgical reporting, and cytology reporting to ensure the delivery of a high-quality histopathology and cytopathology service.
• Advise and consult with clinical colleagues, general practitioners, and Trust staff on clinical matters, both generally and on an individual patient basis.
• Participate in the training of Clinical Fellows and be responsible for the interpretation of results and advising on further investigations where necessary.
• Contribute to the management of the service, working with laboratory staff and the pathology management team to set clinical priorities and resolve operational problems.
• Lead laboratory staff on clinical matters, instructing and working with them in the day-to-day handling of cases.
• Participate in audit, accreditation, and quality assurance schemes, and work with colleagues to set the strategic clinical direction and development of the pathology service.
• Collaborate with clinical colleagues in the development of new methods of treatment and advise on changes in methodologies or the introduction of new equipment, consumables, or new tests.

• Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice.
• UK-trained applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
• Non-UK-trained applicants must show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
• FRCPATH or qualification of an equivalent level.
• Broad range of experience in histopathology and cytopathology, including demonstrable experience in a Locum Consultant role.
• Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion.
• Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training, and other colleagues.
• Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
• Evidence of engagement with appraisal and revalidation.
• Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives.
• Comprehensive knowledge and insight regarding all the domains within the GMC standards of Good Medical Practice.
