We are partnering with a Local Authority in Powys to support the appointment of a Trading Standards Officer on a 2-month contract, with a high likelihood of extension at the client's discretion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To investigate consumer complaints and provide guidance on consumer rights and responsibilities under civil and criminal law, contributing to an informed and educated local community.
  • To collaborate with partners, including external contractors, and other organizations on a local, national, or international level as required, participating in groups that facilitate the delivery of the Trading Standards Service.
  • To support, motivate, and train officers within the Service, including students, and supervise them as necessary to enable effective duty performance, and deputize for the Senior Trading Standards Officer in their absence.
  • To undertake duties required by legislation for a Weights and Measures Inspector to assist the Council in meeting its statutory obligations, adopting the role of authorized food officers under the Food Safety Act and associated legislation.
  • To manage and lead the Service in nominated specialist areas, including budget management and producing project work, action plans, and timely performance reporting.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Trading Standards (or equivalent)
  • Qualification to enforce Food Safety Legislation
  • Qualification to perform the duties of a Weights and Measures Inspector

Experience:

  • At least 12 months of experience working in a Trading Standards environment
  • Proven track record of working with consumers and businesses to resolve disputes and secure compliance
  • Experience in investigating and reporting breaches of Trading Standards legislation

  • Availability to start immediately or at short notice is required
  • Right to work in the UK is necessary
