About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Bookkeeper | Business Services Assistant to join our team at Riverside Recruitment. As a key member of our accountancy firm, you will be responsible for undertaking higher-level bookkeeping and management accounts, with some opportunity to assist with year-end accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Using cloud-based accounting software, including Xero, QuickBooks, and SAGE50, to process payments, invoices, income, and receipts, and enter data into accounting software or spreadsheets from client records.
  • Reconciling clients' bank accounts and analyzing income and expenditure correctly in the profit and loss account and balance sheet.
  • Regularly monitoring accounts payable and receivable to ensure accuracy and up-to-dateness within the accounting software.
  • Preparing VAT returns for a range of clients and reviewing clients' bookkeeping and VAT treatment where necessary.
  • Managing a portfolio of clients and ensuring all VAT records are requested and returns prepared and submitted within deadlines.
  • Preparing monthly/quarterly management accounts for clients of varying sizes, while gaining a good understanding of each client worked on.
  • Preparing monthly/quarterly accounting journals relating to the management accounts and any additional journals, including payroll journals.
  • Producing financial statements, including P&L accounts, cash flows, variance analysis, and commentaries.
  • Communicating with clients regarding queries.
  • Preparing payment runs to pay clients' staff wages and supplier payments.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience within an accounts practice, including bookkeeping experience.
  • AAT qualified.
  • Experience working on Xero software (preferably Xero certified).
  • Experience preparing and filing VAT returns through accounting software.
  • Experience preparing management accounts and being confident analyzing data to produce reports.
  • Ability to work both independently and directly with clients.
  • Accurate data entry skills with excellent knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook, and good IT skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passionate about providing a great service to deliver a high level of client care.
  • Experience managing a client portfolio would be desirable.
