Finance Lead - Transformation Team

Bedford Borough Council is undergoing significant transformation, requiring a Finance Lead to join the Transformation team.

The postholder will collaborate with senior managers to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial data and context to ensure the Efficiency Plan and Future Savings Proposals achieve desired outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop Future Savings Proposals to deliver agreed financial outputs, including determining budgetary baselines and re-cutting these based on proposed changes.
  • Assess the financial consequences of change, including income and expenditure, funding types, and cross-cutting impacts across services.
  • Analyze financial risks, impacts, dependencies, and costs associated with potential service offer changes.
  • Lead benefits realization of the current Efficiency Plan and provide financial modeling.
  • Work collaboratively with finance colleagues accountable for current and future BAU deliverables.
  • Interact with senior stakeholders to communicate plans, progress status, and expected completion dates.
Essential Skills:
  • Qualified Accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with post-qualification experience in a similar role.
  • Recent Local Authority sector experience.
  • Experience working within transformation programs.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail and commitment to deadlines.
  • Pro-active and self-starter with ability to take initiative and develop workable solutions.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload while maintaining clear oversight of program objectives.
  • Experience in stakeholder management on complex/sensitive programs.
