Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly and diverse perioperative team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment.

Main Duties

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will assist in preparing equipment and the theatre environment for surgical lists, collect patients from ward areas, transfer and position patients for procedures, and participate in providing physical and psychological support to patients. You will also assist the surgical team with assigned tasks and adhere to all departmental and Trust policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team
  • Prepare equipment and the theatre environment for surgical lists
  • Collect patients from ward areas and transfer them to the theatre
  • Participate in providing physical and psychological support to patients
  • Assist the surgical team with assigned tasks
  • Adhere to all departmental and Trust policies and procedures
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have good communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to work effectively in a team. You will also need to be able to lift and move equipment and patients as required. Previous experience in a hospital or operating theatre setting is desirable, but not essential.

Essential Criteria

  • Care Certificate or ability to work towards
  • GCSE level or equivalent

Desirable Criteria

  • Interest in undertaking further training

Experience

  • Used to working in a busy and pressured environment

Skills

  • Good communication skills - written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal and teamworking skills under sometimes difficult conditions
  • Manual dexterity
  • Physical ability to carry out activities required
