Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Governance Officer to support the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations with governance, policy, and assurance. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with the Management Committee and Senior Management Team to champion good governance and develop our compliance approach.

The Governance Officer will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

  1. Supporting the Director and Senior Team to ensure excellent governance of the organisation.
  2. Working with the Management Committee to ensure support for governance is compliant, effective, and contributes towards our strategic objectives.
  3. Identifying areas for improvement and recommending solutions to enhance organisational governance performance and adherence to the Regulatory Framework and regulatory standards through undertaking self-assessment.
  4. Conducting comprehensive reviews and evaluations of the Association's policies, governance structures, and compliance processes.
  5. Maintaining the assurance statement evidence bank and preparing updates for the Management Committee and Senior Team.
  6. Continuing to improve the Association's governance through undertaking continuous professional development.
  7. Providing updates to the Management Committee and staff on legal and regulatory changes and what this means for the Association.
  8. Promoting and encouraging a culture of responsibility for compliance.
  9. Providing advice and guidance on issues that relate to governance and compliance matters.
  10. Highlighting key risk areas to the Management Committee and Senior Team as deemed appropriate, providing updates on changes and mitigation.
  11. Ensuring that documents and pages relating to governance are updated on our website and Publications List.
  12. Working collaboratively with stakeholders in and outside of the organisation to deliver good governance, including networking and reviewing best practice.
Key Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will be skilled and/or qualified in the following areas:

  1. Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of governance in the Scottish social housing sector, governance structures, and related policies and best practice.
  2. Managing and making decisions independently.
  3. High level of communication and IT skills.
  4. Ability to respect and observe confidentiality at the highest level.
