Position Overview
We invite qualified professionals to consider this rewarding opportunity for a permanent consultant role.
The successful candidate will be offered a 10 PA contract, with the possibility of part-time arrangements. The role will primarily focus on managing school-age referrals, particularly in the areas of ADHD and ASD, alongside a specialized clinic for children with unique educational needs. The job plan is adaptable, and we encourage informal discussions regarding specific interests.
Our team comprises six consultant community pediatricians, two specialist doctors, and four specialty doctors, complemented by a community grid trainee SpR position. Additionally, we collaborate with a clinical psychologist, assistant psychologist, ASD pathway practitioner, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists, while maintaining strong partnerships with speech and language therapy and educational psychology services. We also have established connections with social care and local educational authorities.
Participation in the out-of-hours Child Protection on-call rota (currently 1 in 6) is negotiable based on the applicant's individual circumstances.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments of outpatient referrals for school-age children suspected of having neurodevelopmental challenges, particularly ADHD and ASD.
- Provide ongoing care and management for children and young individuals with various disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Assume direct responsibility for the care of children with learning and physical disabilities at a local special educational institution.
- Engage in the existing Safeguarding on-call rota, including cases involving children suspected of being victims of abuse during working hours (additional training will be provided if necessary) and child death cases. While the current rota is 1:6, individual contributions can be discussed during pre-interview conversations and negotiated during job planning.

Essential Qualifications
- MRCPCH or equivalent qualification.
- Full GMC Registration.
- CCT in Community/General Paediatrics or eligibility for the same within six months of appointment.
Experience Requirements
Essential
- Extensive experience in community pediatrics, including neurodisability.
- Experience in teaching medical students.
Desirable
- At least 12 months of training and/or experience in Pediatric Neurodisability.
