The Role

Our Automation & Digitalisation teams execute projects across various sectors, including Nuclear, Food & Beverage, Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, Energy/Renewables, Metals, and Utilities.

Based in Chesterfield, Fareham, and Warrington, our teams leverage a broad spectrum of technologies such as Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA, among others. Our solutions encompass PLC, HMI, SCADA, MES, Batch, Functional Safety, OT Cyber Security, and Industry 4.0.

In light of our ongoing expansion in Automation, we are seeking a Project Manager to join our Chesterfield team.

Reporting to the Head of Projects and collaborating closely with the Project Controls team, the Project Manager will oversee the commercial and technical success of all projects within their purview. This role requires providing leadership to project and engineering teams while fostering a culture that prioritizes Health and Safety and Compliance. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in managing Automation, Engineering, and multidisciplinary projects, along with a proven track record in leading project teams.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Oversee project responsibilities from a commercial and contractual perspective, collaborating with the Management team and Head of Projects on all related aspects.
  • Ensure technical accountability by working closely with the Engineering Team and Management to deliver cost-effective solutions that meet client specifications and Bilfinger's standards, while maintaining ongoing customer relationships.
Primary Objectives
  • Prioritize Health and Safety as the foremost objective.
  • Meet overall project budgetary targets.
  • Ensure complete technical delivery of assigned projects.
  • Manage technical and team dynamics for designated projects.
  • Identify and maximize opportunities within assigned projects (variations, savings).
  • Enhance business development prospects with existing clients.
  • Maintain effective customer management.
  • Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations by Bilfinger UK Ltd.
  • Coordinate company resources with other Project Managers and the Head of Projects.
Key Functions

Key functions will typically include, but are not limited to:
  • Health and Safety: Uphold paramount importance on personal safety, ensuring compliance with company Health and Safety protocols.
  • Schedule Management: Develop and maintain project schedules, collaborating with Planners for effective project control.
  • Commercial Management: Achieve and exceed project budgetary goals, managing procurement and invoicing for favorable cash flow.
  • Contract Management: Execute projects in accordance with contractual obligations, optimizing revenue and financial performance.
  • Technical Management: Ensure comprehensive responsibility for the technical delivery of projects.
  • Customer Management: Serve as the primary contact for clients on technical and commercial matters, maintaining proactive communication.
  • Sub-contract Management: Develop specifications for sub-contracted works and oversee their execution to meet delivery timelines and quality standards.
  • Risk Management: Collaborate with the Management Team to identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Internal Reporting: Provide monthly progress reports to the Head of Projects, including analysis of project metrics.
  • Strategy Development: Collaborate with the Management Team to refine strategies for maximizing project returns.
  • Planning: Identify obligations of all parties involved in project delivery.
  • Scope Management: Ensure no additional scope is added without commercial benefit to Bilfinger.
  • Multidiscipline Team Management: Oversee various engineering disciplines, ensuring team members have the necessary resources to complete tasks.
  • Quality Management: Define and manage quality objectives for projects, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
  • Sales/Proposals: Report on sales and business development opportunities for follow-up by the sales/proposals department.
  • Resource Management: Collaborate with the Management Team to ensure optimal utilization of engineering resources.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in providing leadership in Health and Safety and Compliance to project teams.
  • 5+ years of experience in delivering engineering projects across various industries, including Nuclear, Food and Beverage, Pharmaceutical/Chemical, Energy/Renewables, Metals, and Utilities.
  • Strong leadership and influencing capabilities.
  • Proven experience in managing multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience in managing a portfolio of projects.
  • Familiarity with working alongside QS, Planners, and other project controls.
  • Experience in managing customer relationships.
  • Knowledge of contract management and various forms of contracts, including NEC3/4, MF1, and bespoke contracts.
  • Understanding of CDM regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of managing all main project phases, including front end, detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with project and business software, including MS Project, Primavera P6, and SAP.
