Adecco is excited to announce an opportunity for an Equine Care Specialist to join our team.
The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the comprehensive care and upkeep of the horses under our management. This includes a commitment to the welfare of the animals, allowing for optimal operational readiness at all times.
This position involves working in a dynamic environment, requiring dedication to the health and safety of the horses, while also providing support to the Mounted Unit.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform essential stable tasks such as feeding, exercising, grooming, and preparing horses for duties to maintain their peak condition.
- Ensure all horse-related equipment is cleaned, maintained, and stored safely after use, while accurately documenting any health assessments.
- Assist officers during public engagements and ceremonial occasions as needed.
- Monitor horse health, identifying any signs of illness and executing emergency care procedures, including administering medications and liaising with veterinary professionals.
- Provide guidance to officers regarding horse behavior and health concerns in the absence of supervisory staff.
- Transport horses and maintain cleanliness of transport vehicles to support operational effectiveness.
- Manage the loading and unloading of horses and equipment as required.
- Operate and maintain horse exercise machinery, reporting any issues to management.
- Maintain a clean and safe stable environment, including bedding preparation and mucking out duties.
- Ensure safety measures are in place during adverse weather conditions to prevent accidents.
- Conduct thorough cleaning and disinfection of stables and equipment to uphold high hygiene standards.
- Inspect and maintain the stable complex, ensuring pathways and drains are clear and safe.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- In-depth knowledge and experience in equine care and welfare.
- Proficient in handling and caring for horses, including grooming, feeding, and administering treatments.
- Ability to recognize health issues and respond appropriately to ensure the well-being of the horses.
- Physical fitness to manage large animals and perform demanding tasks.
- Knowledge of safe handling and fitting of equestrian equipment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Flexibility in work hours to accommodate operational needs.
- Experience with manual handling and the use of heavy equipment.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues and external partners.
- Possession of a valid driving license; additional qualifications in equine care are preferred.
