The Linen Services Operations Supervisor will assist in the effective management of linen production for patients, visitors, and staff, ensuring operational efficiency and quality service delivery.

Reporting to the Linen Production Manager, this role encompasses the comprehensive oversight, planning, and execution of laundry services across the organization, including external contracts as necessary.

The Supervisor will also contribute to the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures related to the handling, processing, and distribution of laundry items, adhering to relevant standards and regulations.

  1. Day-to-day management of laundry personnel and team leaders.
  2. Leading, motivating, and developing the team to achieve operational goals.

  4. Managing financial and physical resources effectively, alongside human resources and staff engagement.

Staff Management

The Supervisor will be responsible for:

  1. Maintaining high performance and conduct standards in accordance with organizational policies.
  2. Recruiting and deploying staff efficiently.
  3. Ensuring all staff receive appropriate training to uphold safety and performance standards.
  4. Collaborating with the Linen Production Manager to enhance quality through policy development.
  5. Managing staffing levels through effective scheduling and leave management.
  6. Providing accurate handover information to the Linen Production Manager.
  7. Setting standards for discipline and appearance.
  8. Supporting unit managers with HR matters.
  9. Fostering effective communication and relationships within the team and with external stakeholders.
  10. Encouraging teamwork and collaboration.
  11. Assisting in the development of training and development plans for team members.
  12. Conducting performance appraisals and maintaining accurate attendance records.

Performance Management

The Supervisor will ensure:

  1. Compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards.
  2. Effective service planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  3. High standards of service and customer care.
  4. Preparation of monthly reports for the Linen Production Manager.
  5. Direct management of staff and activities related to linen services.
  6. Regular communication with ward staff to assess service needs.
  7. Monitoring of laundry audits and adherence to policies.
  8. Security of premises and resources.
  9. Continuous improvement of production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Leadership

The Supervisor will:

  1. Ensure staff are trained and motivated to deliver high service standards.
  2. Enhance staff performance through development and objective setting.
  3. Collaborate with Trade Unions and staff representatives.
  4. Provide visible leadership and promote teamwork across departments.
  5. Comply with relevant standards and ensure monitoring is documented.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential qualifications include:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Supervisory & Management.
  • Degree-equivalent knowledge in Professional Hotel Services and Business Management.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Essential experience includes:

  • In-depth knowledge of linen service practices and infection control.
  • Experience in a similar management role.
  • Experience in conducting staff appraisals.
  • Understanding of linen and laundry legislation and best practices.

Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.
