Behaviour Support Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team at Prospero Teaching. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children and young people with complex needs and challenging behaviours associated with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum conditions, and mental health problems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver person-centred support to individuals with high levels of complex needs and challenging behaviours
  • Work in a school setting, providing 1:1 support to children and young people with a range of needs, including anxiety, exclusion, speech and language difficulties, physical and mental health issues, and learning difficulties
  • Use de-escalation techniques and strategies to manage challenging behaviour
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
  • Collaborate with the school team to develop and implement individualised support plans
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children and young people who display challenging behaviour
  • De-escalation training or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathy and understanding of the needs of children and young people with complex needs
