Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the management of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) in the Clinical Trials Office, supervising Clinical Trials Officers, and assisting senior staff in the day-to-day running of Clinical Trials.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the management of IMPs in the Clinical Trials Office, ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Supervise Clinical Trials Officers, providing guidance and support to ensure the smooth operation of Clinical Trials.
  • Assist senior staff in the day-to-day running of Clinical Trials, including the training of rotational staff.
  • Ensure adherence to all current and relevant legislation, including the Human Medicines Act, GMP, GCP, H&S, COSHH, and European Directive 2001/20/EC.
  • Oversee the safe management and delivery of clinical trial medicines (IMPs), including manufactured products from production units to CRF wards, GOSH wards, and departments.
  • Communicate effectively with senior staff and other stakeholders to ensure the provision of pharmacy top-up and dispensing services to wards and research patients.
  • Accurately check and receive all goods addressed to the Pharmacy from clinical trial suppliers, completing computer transactions in accordance with SOPs.
  • Ensure that all received goods are processed in accordance with correct storage requirements and handling procedures, and that stock is received on EPIC and Clinical Trial Sponsor stock inventory systems correctly.

Person Specification
  • BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) Level 3 (City and Guilds) and Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science (QCF) or equivalent qualification supported by Pharmacy work experience.
  • Accuracy checking qualification or willingness to work towards accreditation.
Experience/Knowledge
  • Relevant dispensary experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Familiarity with dispensary and distribution stock control systems.
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Trials regulations.
  • Experience of Clinical Trials and the management of Investigational Medicinal Products.
  • Experience in training and education.

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and all levels of staff in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
