About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Optometrist to join our team at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Specialist Optometrist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality optometric services to our patients, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver specialist optometric services to patients of all ages, including complex assessments and management of visual disabilities.
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner, interpreting policy and advising junior staff on clinical decisions.
  • Lead and coordinate the deployment of staff, evaluating service delivery and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Undertake clinical audit and research, contributing to the development of new services and protocols.
  • Provide teaching and training to junior staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and other healthcare professionals.
Requirements
  • Registered as an Optometrist with the General Optical Council.
  • Specialist knowledge across a range of optometric procedures and practices, supported by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.
  • Ability to work independently, making complex decisions and interpreting policy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with patients, carers, and colleagues in highly distressing or emotional circumstances.
  • Physical ability to move major clinical equipment and perform frequent concentration in a semi-dark environment.
