Position Overview
Purpose of the Role
The Actuarial Consultant position encompasses a diverse range of actuarial tasks within the general insurance sector. This role involves establishing client relationships from the outset and contributing to business expansion through client-focused projects, actuarial function activities, and the creation of actuarial models.
The General Insurance Actuarial team offers consulting expertise across the industry. Clients may include Personal Lines insurers, Specialist insurers, and entities within the Lloyds and London Market. Each role presents the chance to gain experience in various actuarial methodologies, including pricing, reserving, capital modeling, and risk management.
Below is a summary of the key responsibilities associated with the Actuarial Consultant position.
Key Responsibilities
The actuarial duties associated with this role will encompass, but are not limited to:
Assist the Head of London Markets or Head of Personal Lines in managing projects and ensuring successful delivery. Take responsibility for assigned project outcomes and related tasks. Engage directly with clients on technical and actuarial issues to meet objectives. Support actuarial project initiatives, including developing calculations, preparing reports, creating presentations, coding, model development, and dashboard creation. Mentor junior team members in developing calculations, preparing reports, and producing other deliverables. Participate in and contribute to internal projects, including software development, research, and intellectual property initiatives. Manage multiple projects concurrently. Assist senior team members in marketing and client acquisition efforts. Contribute to proposals and respond to Requests for Proposals. Engage in team learning and knowledge-sharing activities. Potentially oversee junior staff members.Required Qualifications and Technical Expertise
Qualified or nearly qualified with a strong exam performance. A minimum of 2 years of actuarial experience. Strong technical skills coupled with effective communication abilities. Experience in at least one of the following areas: reserving, capital modeling, pricing, exposure management, reinsurance analysis, and risk management. Proficiency in coding with Python, R, or VBA is advantageous. Experience in model or process development using specialized actuarial software (Igloo, Tyche, ResQ, Psicle) is also beneficial. For London Market roles: Experience within the Lloyd's market, whether through in-house, consultancy, or regulatory work. Familiarity with Lloyd's guidelines on technical provisions, capital modeling, validation, and relevant RIO guidelines is essential. A working knowledge of key Lloyd's Core Market Returns is advantageous, particularly LCR, SBF, QMR, TPD, and SII. An understanding of Lloyd's reporting bases is expected. For Personal Lines/Specialist Insurers: Demonstrated understanding of Solvency II/UK or IFRS 17 reporting bases. Experience within a Solvency II Actuarial Function is preferable. Familiarity with the MGA market is also a plus.Essential Skills
