About the Role

This renowned construction company is seeking a skilled Civils Estimator to join their estimating department. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing support to the team, developing project scope, programmes, and cost estimates for clients across various sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimate Development: Develop and produce discipline-specific estimates, quantitative take-offs, and Bills of Quantity (BOQs) for various construction projects.
  • Project Understanding: Assist in developing an understanding of the project solution, challenge where necessary, to enable the creation of accurate estimates.
  • Collaboration: Engage and coordinate with estimating disciplines, engineering, and technical specialists to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Cost Estimation: Conduct detailed cost estimates for groundworks projects, analyzing project plans and specifications to develop accurate pricing.
  • Proposal Preparation: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather essential information, preparing comprehensive bid proposals and ensuring timely submissions.
  • Project Monitoring: Monitor and update project budgets, ensuring costs remain within agreed parameters.
  • Negotiations: Provide support in negotiations with clients and suppliers.
Requirements
  • Estimate Work: Conduct estimate work directly utilizing own resources.
  • Estimate Summaries: Prepare estimate summaries and submission documents relating to estimate reviews, cost assurance, and client submittals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage and develop relationships with key stakeholders, communicating with the wider business, including commercial, procurement, engineering, and construction teams.
  • Client Relationships: Build and maintain client relationships, supporting the development and implementation of continual improvement and increased efficiencies in the department's data and processes.
  • Quotation and Cost Rate Databases: Input to and maintain quotation and cost rate databases, cost curve, and cost models.
About the Candidate

The successful Civils Estimator will be an effective communicator, with experience in interpreting, interrogating, and influencing the design and construction of projects, while developing cost estimates and associated deliverables.

Key skills and experience include:

  • Degree educated in engineering, surveying, or construction-related fields.
  • Civil Works estimating experience utilizing a computerized analytical estimating system.
  • Ability to complete first-principal measurements and cost estimation utilizing in-house resources.
  • Capability to estimate projects at different stages of the project life cycle, from high-level budget through to detailed estimates with quantitative take-off, working with the relevant level of design detail at each stage.
  • Experience sufficient to understand and influence the design and constructability of a project.
  • Experience with opportunity and risk management techniques and application within an estimate.
  • Expertise gained within a civils and groundworks environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to integrate and be part of a team.
  • Self-disciplined and organized, able to manage work and work to strict deadlines.
  • Commercially astute.
