About the Role

A significant aspect of your responsibilities will involve the MRC Centre for Environment and Health, supported by the Medical Research Council, which collaborates closely with the National Institute for Health Research Health Protection Research Units (NIHR HPRU) focusing on Chemical and Radiation Threats and Hazards, as well as Environmental Exposures and Health. The Centre is esteemed as an international hub for research and training on the health impacts of environmental pollutants, translating this expertise to inform policies aimed at enhancing public health.

Your Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Department Manager and the Centre Scientific Manager to provide essential organizational and administrative support for a portfolio of scientific grants.
  • Oversee the financial and project management of several large-scale collaborative initiatives with external partners, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Lead the development, tracking, and monitoring of grant budgets, report on scientific advancements to funding bodies, and coordinate the recruitment of key personnel.
  • Proactively identify funding opportunities and prepare grant submissions.

Coordination and Engagement

In your role, you will play a pivotal part in the Centre's coordination, working alongside the Scientific Manager to assist scientists in executing the Centre's research programs. Key duties include:

  • Collaborating with the Centre's Training Programme Coordinator to facilitate recruitment and career development initiatives for PhD students, researchers, and fellows.
  • Organizing public engagement events to promote the Centre's work.
  • Maintaining effective communication both within the Centre and with external stakeholders.
  • Facilitating collaboration activities and scientific meetings across the Centre.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A Master's degree or equivalent experience in a scientific discipline relevant to the Centre's objectives.
  • Highly motivated with exceptional administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in project management best practices, budget management, and producing concise written materials for scientific or administrative purposes under tight deadlines.
  • Able to work independently across a broad portfolio of responsibilities.
