Job Overview

The position is designed to prepare the successful candidate to perform psychological evaluations, create structured assessments, and implement evidence-based psychological interventions under the guidance of a qualified psychological professional. This will encompass both individual and group therapy sessions tailored to the specific needs of patients, utilizing approaches such as compassion-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness techniques.

1. Under supervision, the role will involve conducting psychological evaluations, developing structured assessments, and assisting in the provision of psychological interventions.

2. Collaborate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to deliver high-quality services to adults and their support systems who are managing long-term or chronic pain conditions, adhering to clinical governance protocols and professional standards.

3. When necessary, co-facilitate group therapy sessions.

4. Gain broader experience in professional psychology within the NHS beyond the primary service area of employment.

5. Engage in clinical supervision with a designated qualified psychology staff member on a weekly basis to enhance practice and ensure safety.

6. Assist in the development, design, and execution of programs and projects, along with all related tasks.

Main Responsibilities

Ensure that care provided aligns with the evidence base, NICE guidelines, and both local and national standards, while operating within legal, professional, and ethical frameworks to deliver psychologically informed healthcare.

Recognize the effects of diversity and social inequalities on individuals' lives. Actively engage in learning by utilizing the evidence base and applying relevant theories and training in practice. Use supervision as a tool for reflection and to foster the development of psychological skills necessary for the role.

Maintain the highest professional standards by preparing for and participating in weekly supervision sessions, aimed at promoting effective learning and ensuring safe practice. Participate in the appraisal process to assess competency development.

Provide low-level interventions in either individual or group settings under the supervision of a qualified psychological professional. Conduct audits, evaluations, and project work as required.

Working for Our Organization

The successful candidate will be part of the East Lancashire Pain Management Service (PMS) and Musculo-Skeletal (MSK) services, primarily based at a teaching hospital, while undergoing training for this role. The PMS offers assessment and treatment for adults experiencing chronic or long-term pain conditions, while the MSK service provides assessment and diagnostic services for musculoskeletal issues in adults. Both services adopt a multi-disciplinary approach, integrating medical interventions, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and clinical/health psychology.
