The Royal Bournemouth Hospital, part of University Hospitals Dorset, is seeking a dedicated individual for our 22-bedded Gastroenterology unit. This unit caters to a diverse patient demographic, offering a dynamic and engaging work environment.
We pride ourselves on our cohesive team culture and are in search of a committed and enthusiastic registered deputy to enhance our service delivery.
Key Opportunities for Registered Staff Include:
- A specialized four-bedded GI Bay focused on delivering high-level care for patients experiencing GI bleeding, providing a platform to refine intensive nursing skills.

This role necessitates active UK NMC Registration.
Main Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will oversee patient flow, safety, and staff coordination within the ward.
Demonstrating a high level of clinical knowledge and skills is essential, including proficiency in extended clinical roles pertinent to acute patient care.
As the Deputy Sister/Clinical Lead, you will be expected to make informed decisions in the absence of the Sister and manage responsibilities such as holding the medical bleep, participating in bed meetings, and ensuring safe staffing levels.
Strong communication links with the Clinical Site Team, Emergency Department, Management, and Multi-Disciplinary Teams are crucial, particularly in managing and escalating cases of 'Stranded Patients.'
You will also be responsible for staff appraisals, training, support, and development within the ward, as well as addressing complaints, managing sickness, and handling adverse incidents.
Shift Patterns:
Shifts will include long days, early shifts, late shifts, and night shifts.

Person Specification:
Qualifications:
Essential: NMC registered Nurse, recognized teaching qualification, experience at Band 5 level in acute medicine, and two years of post-qualifying experience.
Desirable: Recognized leadership course.
Experience:
Essential: Demonstrable experience within Gastroenterology and proven leadership and management skills.
Desirable: Experience in implementing service improvements and evaluating their effectiveness.
Technical Skills:
Essential: IT literacy with relevant software, ability to retrieve investigation results, teaching and presentation skills, and clinical competence in acute care.
Desirable: Skills in venepuncture, cannulation, ECG recording, and blood transfusion.
Knowledge:
Essential: Understanding of clinical audit and effectiveness, fundamental nursing knowledge, and practical skills.
Desirable: Proficiency in LERN/RCA training, knowledge of sickness management, appraisal processes, and budget management.
