Job Summary:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Academic Support Specialist to join our team at Brightpoint Community College. As a Professional Tutor, you will provide academic support to students in various subjects, including STEM and writing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions to students
- Develop and maintain training materials and online resources for student tutors
- Model expectations and hold student tutors accountable for their performance
- Take attendance and perform administrative duties as needed
- Assist with embedded tutoring and campus workshops
Requirements:
- Prior tutoring experience required
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends as needed
- Successful completion of a criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with software such as Tutor Trac or Navigate, and learning management systems such as Blackboard or Canvas
- Experience working in an academic resource center or equivalent
