Join Our Fleet Team as a HGV Mechanic
Service Care Solutions is thrilled to present an opportunity for a dedicated professional to become a part of our Local Authority client's Fleet Team in North London. We are looking for a Permanent HGV Mechanic to contribute to the efficient operation of our vehicle maintenance services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive maintenance on the council's fleet of vehicles, ensuring adherence to service obligations in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Utilize your technical expertise in the Transport Workshop for the inspection, servicing, and repair of vehicles and their components.
- Support compliance with the council's operators' license and relevant legislation, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Act as the council's designated VOSA MOT Station Nominated Tester, conducting MOT Tests (Class 4, 5 & 7).
- Assist with day-to-day Transport Workshop administration and provide operational support for FleetwaveTM IT systems.
- Inspect and test vehicles and plant equipment to meet council standards and legal requirements.
- Diagnose faults and perform repairs necessary for legislative testing, providing detailed maintenance reports.
- Identify and report potential faults affecting vehicle safety and operational capability.
- Service and repair vehicles using appropriate equipment, ensuring safety and compliance with established standards.
- Possess the necessary skills to work on electric/hybrid vehicles, including diagnosing faults in high voltage systems.
- Conduct off-site inspections and repairs, providing roadside assistance as needed.
- Estimate repair costs and recommend actions prior to undertaking tasks.
Candidate Requirements:
- Hold an NVQ L3 or IMI L3 qualification or equivalent in Heavy Motor Vehicle.
- Be a Qualified Commercial Vehicle Inspector (VOSA Accredited).
- Have experience in HGV Mechanics, particularly with Mercedes and Dennis vehicles and buses.
- Be available for standby duties on a rota basis.
- Possess strong IT skills and effective communication abilities.
- Demonstrate teamwork and flexibility in changing work conditions.
- Be able to work split shifts.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 06:30 to 21:30 on a split shift, with standby cover on a 1 in 9-week rota, including weekends and bank holidays.
