PostgreSQL Database Architect

We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer with a strong background in PostgreSQL to join our team at Selby Jennings. As a key member of our database platform team, you will design, implement, and maintain critical database infrastructure to support our high-performing multi-strategy hedge fund.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and implement database solutions focused on PostgreSQL, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across various platforms.
- Serve as a PostgreSQL expert with 5+ years of experience managing PostgreSQL databases in on-premise and cloud environments (AWS RDS, Aurora).
- Leverage open-source tools to manage, monitor, and optimize database performance.
- Proactively monitor database performance and resolve issues to ensure seamless operations and scalability.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, and disaster recovery processes.
- Implement database security measures, including encryption, access controls, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with development and business teams to optimize database schemas, queries, and indexing to improve performance and scalability.
- 5+ years of production experience managing PostgreSQL databases, with a focus on high availability, performance tuning, and optimization.
- Experience using open-source tools for database management and monitoring.
- Strong experience with AWS databases such as RDS and Aurora, with knowledge of cloud architecture.
- Familiarity with SQL Server or other RDBMS platforms is advantageous.
- Experience in Linux-based environments for database management.
- Solid understanding of security best practices and tools for encryption, database security, and permissions management.
- Experience with containerized environments like Docker and Kubernetes for database deployments.
- Familiarity with multi-database environments, including SQL Server, DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Snowflake.
- Previous experience in the financial services sector, particularly with hedge funds or investment banks.
