Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled professional to become a vital member of our gastroenterology team. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive outpatient, inpatient, and endoscopic gastroenterology services.
This is a full-time role, although we welcome applications from individuals interested in part-time or job-share arrangements. Should a part-time or job-share candidate be selected, we will discuss personalized modifications to the job plan.
A particular focus in Gastroenterology, whether at a general or hepatology level, is encouraged. You will typically hold clinical responsibility for a range of outpatient and inpatient gastroenterological patients.
Main Responsibilities
- Deliver a high-quality, all-encompassing gastroenterology service within a district general hospital, including endoscopic procedures, ensuring the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses, alongside the effective operation of the service.
- Actively engage in the continuous enhancement of the gastroenterology service, aligning with national standards and NICE guidelines.
- Provide professional oversight and management of junior medical personnel, adhering to local employment and human resource policies.
- Fulfill teaching, examination, and accreditation responsibilities as necessary, contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education at local and national levels.
- Participate in medical audits and other clinical effectiveness initiatives, particularly focusing on the Trust's Clinical Governance processes to promote quality and standards improvement.

Job Responsibilities
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic colleague to join our team in the provision of gastroenterology services. You will provide outpatient, inpatient, and endoscopic gastroenterology services.
This is a full-time position but candidates wishing to work part-time or in a job-share are encouraged to apply. If a part-time or job-share person is appointed, modification of the job plan will be discussed with the appointee on a personal basis.
A special interest in Gastroenterology can be at a general or hepatology level. You would normally have clinical responsibility for a number of outpatient and inpatient gastroenterological patients.
Key Duties
- Provision of a high-quality comprehensive district general hospital gastroenterology service including endoscopy with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the service.
- Participate fully in the ongoing development of the gastroenterology service, in line with national and NICE frameworks.
- Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures.
- Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination, and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally.
- Engage in medical audit and other clinical effectiveness activities, in particular the Trust's Clinical Governance processes, fostering improvements in quality and standards.
Service Overview
The Gastroenterology Service provides general and sub-specialty outpatient and inpatient care for gastroenterology and hepatology, including suspected cancers, as well as providing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Full GMC Registration with a License to Practice.
- Higher UK qualification - MRCP or equivalent recognized by the GMC.
- Knowledge and application of up-to-date evidence-based practice.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients.
- Experience in postgraduate teaching.
- Knowledge of current trends in the specialty.
Desirable Qualifications
- Relevant higher degree, either at the Master's or Doctorate level or equivalent.
- Training in Thoracoscopy and pleural ultrasound.
- Subspecialty within Gastroenterology.
