About the Role:

Rapiscan Detection is a leading provider of detection technology, offering cargo and vehicle inspection systems and services to help customers combat security threats. We're seeking an experimental X-ray scientist to join our X-ray source development team, designing new technologies for X-ray and CT imaging in the security market.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the design and development of X-ray sources to enhance image quality and threat detection capabilities.
  2. Collaborate with the Senior X-ray Scientist to provide design and experimental support for technology development.
  3. Contribute to the design of key tube subsystems, including electron guns, cathode technologies, anode design, and high voltage insulators.
  4. Assemble and experimentally validate new tube developments.
  5. Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and refine designs based on findings.
  6. Work collaboratively with the Engineering team to support the development of new imaging technologies.
  7. Collaborate with Production and Manufacturing Engineering teams to transfer proven technologies into production.
  8. Support the improvement of current production technologies and legacy systems.
  9. Develop interactions with global science and engineering teams on R&D projects.
  10. Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements:

  1. Postgraduate experience in experimental radiation physics.
  2. Experience in ultra-high vacuum and high voltage is required.
  3. Strong experimental skills, including the ability to design and conduct complex experiments.
  4. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate effectively in a developmental and manufacturing environment.
  5. Understanding of X-ray dosimetry and shielding is advantageous.
  6. A PhD in experimental radiation physics or a related topic is preferred.
