About the Role:

The Traffic Management Operative will be responsible for directing the movement and loading/unloading of lorries and directing the movement of mobile plant. The operative will also control the movements of excavator or other mobile plant, by carefully monitoring the bucket for any obstructions and other vehicle movements and pedestrians.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Safe Reversing Procedures: Ensure the organization meets the legal requirements when reversing a vehicle.
  • Reduce Accidents: Reduce the number and/or cost of accidents caused by reversing vehicles.
  • Minimize Reversing: Minimize the amount of reversing and be aware of the dangers caused when reversing.
  • Effective Communication: Use practical techniques and hand signals to assist drivers in all manoeuvres.
  • Clear Signalling: Will need to use a clear, agreed system of signalling.
  • Visibility: Will need to be visible to drivers at all times.
  • Safe Positioning: Will need to stand in a safe position, from which to guide all vehicles without being in the way.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Will wear hi-visible clothing, such as reflective trousers /shirt/coat, and ensure that any signals are clearly seen.
  • Compliance: Be fully compliant with PPE requirements of the site.
  • Effective Radio Communication: Have clear and effective use of the 2-way radio. Communication skills are essential.
  • Incident Reporting: Report to the Operations Manager and Shift Supervisors on any near miss incidents involving vehicle movements in the yard.
  • Policy Compliance: Comply with all Health, Safety, HR and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Yard Maintenance: Ensure no bins/skips get dropped in the main yard.
  • Site Regulations: Ensure the one-way system and speed limits are obeyed at all times.
  • Vehicle Control: Control the holding bays and safe parking of all vehicles on site.
  • Queue Management: Control the ques at the weighbridge/drive in the peak times.
  • Delivery Coordination: Directing deliveries to relevant departments.
  • Site Safety: Ensure all personnel are complying with all site PPE requirements.
  • Vehicle Security: Ensure drivers do not leave their vehicles unattended within an undesignated parking area.
  • Pedestrian Safety: Ensure pedestrian routes are adhered to and under no circumstances people crossing the yard as a cut through.
About You:

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Traffic Management Operative to join our team at Countrystyle Recycling. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of goods vehicles and their operation, as well as excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

    • Has experience of operating a weighbridge.
    • Banksman Trained.
