Key Responsibilities and Duties: Deliver insightful, solution-oriented ornithological guidance to assist NatureScot's statutory consultation responses concerning marine and coastal sectors and development initiatives. This guidance will necessitate a thorough evaluation of impact pathways and population effects to inform the Habitats Regulations Appraisal process and other associated evaluations. Develop internal and external resources to ensure uniformity and effective provision of marine ornithology guidance. Act as a representative for NatureScot on marine avian research project steering committees and external collaborative groups. Aid in the execution of NatureScot's marine bird Marine Protected Area (MPA) and broader marine conservation efforts, with the possibility of site visits as required. Participate in the collective efforts of the two marine and coastal Activity Teams by attending Activity meetings, engaging in Activity training sessions, and contributing to the formulation, monitoring, and achievement of business plan objectives.

Required Skills: (Please reference these in your Supporting Statement)

A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant natural science such as zoology, biology, ecology, or environmental science, along with pertinent postgraduate experience. Comprehensive understanding of conservation and planning legislation pertinent to avian species and Scotland's marine environments, including the EC Birds Directive, Habitats Regulations, and the Marine (Scotland) Act. Strong knowledge of the ecology of Scottish seabirds, including current threats, vulnerabilities, and impact pathways. Familiarity with marine bird monitoring methodologies, including land and boat-based surveys, vantage-point surveys, digital aerial surveys, and remote sensing technologies. Experience in preparing or responding to Environmental Impact Assessments, including Habitats Regulations Appraisal. Proficient written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to articulate complex information clearly and confidently. Solid project management capabilities, including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills with the capacity to collaborate effectively within a team and foster positive relationships to motivate action from others.

Willingness to undergo a Disclosure Scotland application. While proficiency in the Gaelic language is not mandatory, it is considered a valuable asset in support of our commitment to the Gaelic Language Plan.
