Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Area Retail Manager to join our team in the Midlands region. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of our retail strategies across a portfolio of company-owned stations.
Main Responsibilities:
- Ensure all stations are operated in accordance with our health and safety policies, creating a safe environment for staff and customers.
- Collate, investigate, and communicate incident information in line with internal procedures.
- Manage communications with external agencies, including the press.
- Ensure the security of company property.
- Conduct monthly fuel audits to ensure accurate payments and security of fuel stocks.
- Review shop, forecourt, and food services at each station to ensure they are operating in line with our policies and procedures.
- Manage and monitor the performance of Contract Managers and staff at each station.
- Ensure each station is applying the correct fuel retail prices to maximize fuel profit margins.
- Recruit, train, and manage Contract Managers to ensure each station has a suitable manager in place.
- Monitor training compliance across the estate.
- Liaise with nominated suppliers to ensure effective promotional activity and merchandising.
- Build relationships with direct supply partners to maximize sales and availability.
- Maintain compliance with planograms and range agreements.
- Liaise with fuel supply partners to maintain brand standards and promote loyalty schemes.
- Monitor and review company expenditure for each station and area.
- Ensure Contract Managers operate within the terms of the Contract Manager Agreement.
- Handle customer complaints and ensure satisfactory follow-up.
- Liaise with outside contractors to establish and manage maintenance issues.
- Maintain company income and expenditure to agreed budget targets.
Dimensions:
Each Area Retail Manager is responsible for the overall profitability of between 16 and 22 company-owned stations, with total sums per annum in relevant magnitudes.
Work Context:
The operating environment is a highly competitive 'price-driven' market dominated by supermarkets and major oil companies.
Complexity:
- Operate effectively and efficiently to achieve given objectives within given time deadlines.
- Have competent, well-trained Contract Managers and staff in all stations.
- Have a positive, productive relationship with all relevant Contract Managers and station staff.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- A proven track record in the forecourt and/or retail sector, ideally with experience of a contract management/franchise business model.
- High self-motivation and discipline with ability to work demanding hours and prioritize duties.
- Outstanding communication skills.
- Good people skills with ability to build effective relationships, inspire, motivate, and lead.
- Good level of numeracy and attention to detail.
- Good financial awareness.
- Good competitor/market awareness.
- Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities.
- Good team player.
