London, Greater London, United Kingdom Groundwork Full time

Location: Schools across the borough of Southwark

Contract: Until 31 March 2027

Salary: £36,000

Hours: 37.5 per week

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Coordinator for Education and Comprehensive School Strategies to join our team, which offers essential therapeutic interventions in primary and secondary educational institutions. The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is committed to enhancing the mental health and wellbeing of children, young people, and their families through various early intervention and prevention initiatives throughout the diverse borough of Southwark.

This distinctive position has been established to further develop our successful Education and Comprehensive School Strategies services within Southwark. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Education and Whole School Approach Lead to cultivate robust partnerships with educational institutions, driving systemic transformation and integrating comprehensive approaches to mental health and wellbeing. A primary emphasis of this role will be on the creation and execution of trauma-informed methodologies tailored to the unique needs of each educational environment.

Groundwork's MHST is part of a groundbreaking, government-funded initiative aimed at revolutionizing mental health and wellbeing services for children and young people through early intervention. Launched in Southwark, the service currently operates in 20 schools, with aspirations for expansion in the upcoming academic year. The MHST is dynamic, adaptable, and diverse, reflecting the community we serve. We have secured funding for continued growth and are therefore looking for four passionate, experienced, and skilled individuals to train as Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and contribute to our service.

The role will involve working alongside current MHST personnel to provide evidence-based, low-intensity cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) interventions for children, young people, and their parents or guardians.

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Experience in a senior management role within an educational setting
  • A track record of implementing systemic changes in schools
  • Knowledge or experience in fostering developmental relationships with educational institutions, communities, families, and young individuals
  • Skills to effectively respond to, regulate, and oversee safeguarding practices, incidents, and disclosures
  • The capability to design and deliver training focused on mental health and wellbeing
