Are you dedicated to providing exceptional care in acute mental health settings?
We are looking for a Principal Clinical Psychologist to engage directly with our inpatient teams and offer expert guidance to fellow psychologists within the organization. This role presents a unique opportunity to enhance your leadership capabilities while contributing to a progressive and expanding service.
You will be an integral part of our inpatient teams located within the Whiteleaf Centre, serving both male and female patients in Aylesbury. The role includes collaboration with assistant psychologists and the chance to mentor trainees.
Your responsibilities will be outlined in a co-created job plan that is both diverse and adaptable, supported by a dedicated consultant psychologist. Additionally, you will have designated time to explore special interests or enhance skills aligned with service needs.
This position is vital in ensuring that patients receive high-quality psychological interventions within our adult inpatient services.

Main Responsibilities
• Deliver psychological assessments and interventions for adults facing severe and/or complex mental health challenges in an inpatient environment.
• Supervise and mentor Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, as well as other clinical team members, in delivering psychologically informed care.
• Collaborate with the inpatient team to provide guidance to colleagues and external partners in developing and executing care plans for patients with psychological needs.
• Operate autonomously within professional standards and local policies, ensuring the systematic governance of psychological practices in the wards.
• Utilize research skills for audits, policy development, and service enhancement.
• Advocate for and implement policy modifications that may influence other professionals within the inpatient service.
• Assume delegated leadership responsibilities in specific clinical areas.

Job Responsibilities
• Contribute to patient care by consulting with the multidisciplinary team and providing ongoing support for the development and implementation of care plans.
• Offer clinical supervision and support to fellow psychologists working in inpatient settings.
• Conduct psychological assessments, including neuropsychological evaluations when appropriate.
• Facilitate individual and group psychological interventions as necessary.
• Assess the effectiveness of both individual and group interventions.
• Provide consultation and supervision to team members in delivering psychologically informed treatments.
• Collaborate with the ward leadership team to drive service improvements and implement changes.
• Supervise and support the psychological assessments and therapies conducted by assistant psychologists and other clinical team members.
• Facilitate reflective practice groups, team formulation sessions, and CPD workshops for ward teams and psychology staff.
• Promote initiatives that foster a psychologically informed environment within the wards.
• Work independently within professional guidelines and local policies to ensure the systematic governance of psychological practices.
