Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and skilled NHS Locum Consultant Psychiatrist to become part of our Southend Community Mental Health Team. This role is pivotal in enhancing the mental health services provided to working-age adults registered with local GPs. Our team operates under a recovery-oriented model, focusing on patients with severe and enduring mental health conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and engage in discussions regarding high-risk patients.
  • Collaborate with inpatient teams and local mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and manage complex cases with both psychiatric and medical needs.
  • Provide psychiatric guidance in developing effective care pathways within the community.
  • Maintain involvement in the treatment of patients in psychiatric wards.
  • Assess and manage various risks, including vulnerability and potential harm.
  • Engage in co-production of care plans with service users and their families.
  • Work alongside consultant colleagues to ensure adequate coverage across services.
  • Participate in strategic planning and development initiatives.
  • Contribute to research and audit activities to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Medical degree (MB BS or equivalent).
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and inclusion on the Specialist Register.
  • Approval under Section 12 and status as an Approved Clinician.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in medical education or clinical research.
  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych).
