About the Role

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Economic Strategist to join our Investment Appraisal and Analysis team at SSE Transmission. As an Economic Strategist, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of key strategic net zero infrastructure in the north of Scotland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough economic assessments of future infrastructure projects, including cost-benefit analyses and wider socioeconomic benefit assessments, to inform project feasibility and investment decisions.
  • Own and manage SSE's investment decision-making methodology, ensuring it evolves to cater for evolving strategic investment priorities, including Area System Planning.
  • Delivery of economic analysis and supporting documentation to support regulatory approval for large network investments.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, environmental and sustainability analysts, and policy experts, to ensure a holistic understanding of project requirements and to develop integrated solutions.
  • Produce high-quality reports and presentations that effectively communicate complex economic concepts and findings to diverse stakeholders, both internal and external.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Economics, Finance, Energy Economics, or a related field.
  • Line management experience (essential).
  • Demonstrated expertise in economic analysis and a proven track record in conducting economic assessments for large infrastructure projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of the UK electricity networks energy sector, including policies and regulation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex economic concepts in a clear and concise manner and a collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Passion for sustainability and renewable energy, coupled with a commitment to contributing to a more sustainable future.
