About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Second Chef to join our team at Gateway Recovery Centre. As a key member of our culinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality food services to our service users and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring smooth operations and maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.
  • Maintain good food storage procedures and stock rotation, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation, planning, and cooking of meals to a consistently high standard, taking into account special requests and dietary requirements.
  • Support in food service, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of meals to service users and staff.
  • Prepare and produce food for conferences and banquets, showcasing your culinary skills and creativity.
  • Participate in food costings, implementing effective cost control procedures to optimize resources and minimize waste.
  • Adhere to 'Safer Food Better Business' standards and record-keeping practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere strictly to Food Hygiene Regulations and other safety procedures at all times, maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Take charge of the department in the Head Chef's absence, ensuring service requirements are met and maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.
  • Assist the Head Chef in researching and creating new menus, ensuring meals are of high quality and align with healthy eating guidelines.
  • Correctly fill all paperwork related to the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point system (HACCP), including fridge temperatures, food temperature logs, and cleaning schedules.
Requirements
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Hold GCSE or equivalent in English
  • Hold City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 (or equivalent) Basic Food Preparation Cooking
  • Hold Basic Food Hygiene (essential)
  • Hold Intermediate Food Hygiene (desirable)
  • Have previous experience in a similar environment
  • Have previous experience in delivering a service on mass
  • Have menu planning, costing, ordering, stock control, and budget experience
