About the Role

Talent Torch is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Ecologist to join our team. As a key member of our Planning and Environmental Services department, you will be responsible for overseeing all ecological works for our projects throughout the UK.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake and manage ecological surveys in support of planning applications and projects, including fieldwork and the organisation of subcontractors and specialist consultants.
  • Conduct report writing and desk-based work to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Grow the ecological team under your guidance through business development and quality service.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider team to manage and organise projects, ensuring successful applications.
  • Develop and maintain your own portfolio of projects and clients, as well as supporting colleagues with their workloads.
Requirements
  • Proven track record in consultancy, with experience of PEA, EcIA, and protected species surveys.
  • Full UK driver's licence and access to own vehicle.
  • Working knowledge of the Scottish planning system, including planning policy and species survey/impact assessment guidance.
  • Understanding of the risks and hazards associated with outdoor working and remote working.
Desirable but NOT Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Bat Survey Licence Holder.
  • A degree in a relevant ecological field.
  • CSCS Card Holder (ecologist).
  • Tree climbing and aerial rescue qualification.
