Winchester, Hampshire, United Kingdom Ridge and Partners LLP Full time

Overview

Location: Winchester

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Building Physics Consultant to become a key member of our expanding team in Winchester. This role offers the chance to engage in groundbreaking sustainable design initiatives across various sectors, including commercial, educational, residential, industrial, logistics, automotive, and healthcare.

As a seasoned Building Physics Consultant, you will possess a robust understanding of thermal modeling. Ideally, your background will encompass Building Services engineering, architecture, or sustainability, complemented by a comprehensive grasp of the built environment. Accreditation as an EPC assessor is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary focus will be to support the development and execution of essential work streams, including:

  • Compliance modeling for building regulations (Part L/EPC)
  • Analysis of thermal comfort (CIBSE Guide A, TM52, and TM59)
  • Operational energy analysis (CIBSE TM54)
  • NABERS simulation
  • Studies on passive design and low to zero carbon technologies
  • Assisting in Net-zero operational energy assessments for both new and retrofit projects
  • Contributing to planning documents such as energy strategies
  • Providing guidance to clients and architects on energy usage and conservation across diverse buildings and sites, with the aim of minimizing environmental impact and reducing carbon footprints

Required Experience and Skills

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Sustainability, along with relevant practical experience in a similar capacity, is essential. You should have demonstrable expertise in building physics, particularly regarding heat transfer, energy efficiency, comfort criteria, and adherence to CIBSE Guidance and other industry standards. Familiarity with guidance from organizations such as LETI, RIBA, and UKGBC is advantageous.

Proficiency in dynamic simulation software, especially IES VE, and a solid understanding of UK Building Regulations, including the National Calculation Methodology, is expected. Ideally, you will be an accredited user of IESve (for SBEM and DSM), a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant, and a Level 5 Low Carbon Energy Assessor.

A basic understanding of mechanical design would be beneficial.

There are opportunities to broaden your expertise into additional sustainability areas, such as embodied carbon and sustainability assessment methods, should this interest you.

Given the collaborative and client-focused nature of this position, effective communication skills and the ability to take initiative in overcoming challenges are crucial.
