Position Overview: The Football Association is seeking skilled interpreters to facilitate effective communication for individuals within our senior squads, particularly those who are deaf. This role will also extend to our talent development pathways.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive BSL communication assistance to players and staff during various events, including matches, training camps, and other activities.
- Support coaching sessions, player meetings, and psychological discussions, ensuring clear communication throughout.
- Utilize diverse communication methods such as British Sign Language (BSL), Sign Supported English (SSE), and lip speaking as necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all discussions held during one-on-one meetings unless permission is granted to disclose information.
- Lead communication efforts in critical situations, including media interactions, medical examinations, and safeguarding discussions.
- Attend formal meetings related to disciplinary actions and safeguarding issues.
- Assist in presentations aimed at deaf staff or players when required.
- Adhere to The FA's safeguarding policies and actively promote diversity and inclusion initiatives within elite teams.
- Execute additional tasks as directed by the Senior Technical Performance Manager to align with organizational priorities.
- Comply with all health, safety, and wellbeing policies to maintain the highest standards.
- Complete a DBS check as part of The FA's commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all involved in football.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- A degree or level 6 qualification in British Sign Language and interpreting.
- Five GCSEs at grade C or above or equivalent.
- Experience in a sports context.
- Strong communication abilities and experience collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Flexibility in working hours and travel.
- A full, clean driving license.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with Disability or Para Football.
- Experience providing interpretation or communication support within Para Football teams.
- Background in elite Para Sport environments.
