Job Title: Acute Medicine Consultant

We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Acute Medicine Consultants to join our dynamic team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

About the Role

The successful applicants will be responsible for delivering high-quality acute care to patients across our Acute Assessment Units and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan.

As an Acute Medicine Consultant, you will be expected to provide clinical leadership and supervision, teaching and training of junior medical staff, and contribute to the ongoing development of the acute medicine services at WWL.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing high-quality consultant-delivered care to patients
  • Ensuring patient safety, dignity, and care are given the highest priority
  • Being proactive in ensuring that patients receive rapid assessment, treatment, and clinical decision-making
  • Undertaking clinical leadership and supervision, teaching, and training of junior medical staff
  • Liaising with clinicians and managers to address any issues arising that may affect the services
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of the acute medicine services at WWL
Person Specification
  • Knowledge of managerial structure within the NHS
Requirements
  • CCT in General Medicine/Acute Medicine
  • Recent comprehensive experience in Acute Medicine and Respiratory Medicine
  • Experience of audit and its role in clinical governance
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to training and teaching of junior medical staff and other health professionals
  • Experience in clinical supervision
  • Formal leadership training
