Job Description

Role Overview

The Greenwich Foodbank Lead will be responsible for providing strategic direction and day-to-day team leadership, management, and coordination of the foodbank. This will involve leading by example in upholding the organization's values, ethos, and culture by motivating and enabling staff and volunteers, as well as strategic partners in implementing the strategy to achieve the vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and deliver the strategic vision for Greenwich Foodbank as a pathfinding foodbank working to eliminate food poverty in the borough, ensuring alignment with the organization's vision, values, and strategy.
    • Be accountable to the Greenwich Foodbank Board and work with staff, volunteers, and key stakeholders to create the right team culture and practices to uphold the organization's values and achieve the vision.
    • Engage staff, volunteers, those served, and the board to translate the Greenwich Foodbank vision into operational strategies, demonstrating clear thinking and inspiring leadership, and a focus on continuous improvement.
    • Ensure an effective performance monitoring system is in place to measure progress.

  • Financial Management
    • Demonstrate a good understanding of finance, budgeting, governance, strategy, and legal requirements in the third sector.

    • Use financial data to oversee the effective allocation of resources, and ensure expenditure is within budget.

Person Specification

Essential Experience

  • A significant proven record of achievement in a senior position within a charity or not-for-profit organization.
  • Experience of managing staff and working with volunteers.
  • Experience of business planning and development.
  • Financial management skills, including budgeting and delivery of cost and income targets.
  • Evidence of a robust approach to governance, with experience of risk management.
  • Evidence of fostering senior-level relationships with partner organizations.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of planning and delivering fundraising strategies.
  • Experience of handling the media (broadcast, print, and social media).
