Project Archivist (Cataloguer) Vacancy

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Archivist to support the work of our Archives & Modern Manuscripts team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and catalog modern archival collections according to our processes and standards.
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of professional literature and best practice.
  • Exercise strong professional judgment to achieve rapid and efficient surveying, sorting, arranging, and sensitivity review of archival collections.
  • Pro-actively promote newly available resources to potential audiences.

Requirements:

  • First degree relevant to our holdings of 20th century archives and manuscripts, or equivalent knowledge gained through other means.
  • Professionally recognised postgraduate qualification in archives management, digital curation, or a related subject.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work well independently and in a team.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage time effectively.
  • Conversant with professional standards for archives, especially relevant to cataloguing materials.
  • Experience of cataloguing modern archives, with evidence of aptitude for high-throughput original cataloguing.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge in one or more of the following subject areas: Modern Greek, 20th-century European politics, 20th-century British literature, 20th-century classical music, and 20th/21st century history, including the history of medicine.
