About the Position
This position is situated within the Corporate Services division, which oversees a wide array of commercial functions across UCL, encompassing Travel, Professional Services, Recruitment, and Marketing.
The primary responsibilities of a Category Management Specialist include establishing robust and effective partnerships with essential stakeholders to gain insights into their needs and expectations. This role involves the formulation and execution of comprehensive category strategies that align with these objectives, ensuring both efficiency and cost-effectiveness while addressing the requirements of Corporate Services and overarching commercial priorities, including sustainability.
You will assist key stakeholders in achieving their goals by implementing Value for Money (VfM) commercial frameworks; managing supplier lists, frameworks, and competitive processes; developing transition strategies for new vendors; offering guidance on commercial, contractual, and compliance issues; and providing support to team members and line managers as necessary.
Your role will also focus on promoting efficiency and savings initiatives within the category, actively seeking opportunities to foster innovation, continuous improvement, and new methodologies in business operations related to your category.
We are open to considering applications for part-time, flexible, and job-sharing arrangements whenever feasible.
About You
The ideal candidate will be a commercially savvy team player with a strong strategic perspective, excellent analytical capabilities, and outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills. A collaborative approach to working with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers is essential, along with a proven history of influencing and delivering commercially successful outcomes.
You should possess substantial commercial or procurement experience, hold a degree (or equivalent professional experience), and have a strong record of effectively managing a category or sub-category, achieving strategic objectives and metrics, and meeting ambitious targets.
A demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder groups and influence key decision-makers is crucial, as is extensive experience in overseeing large-scale tenders, conducting contract and service level agreement negotiations, drafting contractual documents, and managing supplier performance and disputes.
