Job Description

Role Summary:

The Drugs Test Officer will be responsible for managing and coordinating the drugs testing on arrest process across custody suites within the police force. This will involve ensuring quality and continuity in the testing process, providing performance management information, and promoting drug testing on arrest as a crime prevention intervention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate the delivery of the drugs testing on arrest program, providing a single point of contact and subject matter expert.
  • Monitor and evaluate the program, establishing reasons for successes and failures, and designing and implementing effective inspection methods.
  • Analyze and interpret data gathered through the program, and report back to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain key links with program stakeholders and partners, representing the force at local, regional, and national meetings.
  • Collate and record offences related to the drugs testing on arrest program, making decisions on prosecution, creating prosecution files, and monitoring outcomes.
  • Maintain the equipment for the program and train staff as required on equipment and processes.
  • Maintain the drugs testing on arrest financial budget and allocate spend as required, in line with Home Office funding figures.

Requirements:

  • Proven ability to use computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to extract and interpret data from systems and/or databases, and collate the data in a presentable format for senior leadership and external agencies.
  • Good working knowledge of investigations and the Criminal Justice system, police procedure and deployments, police investigations, and Human Rights legislation.
  • Experience in making and reviewing decisions after gathering all available information, assessing risks, and considering available options.
  • Ability to work co-operatively and unsupervised, and to put together training and deliver training to colleagues.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills to manage their own time effectively and achieve deadlines and requirements of partner agencies.
  • Able to communicate at all levels and influence improvements in working practices.
  • High level of self-motivation and ability to work on own initiative in developing good practice and efficiency based on organizational need.
