Position Overview

This is a remarkable opportunity for a psychologist to engage in a developmental role within a community-based stroke service. The position involves providing direct clinical support while also contributing to the enhancement of psychological services. We offer comprehensive supervision and guidance from a Consultant Neuropsychologist. While the role is primarily full-time, we are open to considering part-time arrangements. Candidates should possess experience in neuropsychological evaluations. We seek individuals who thrive in multidisciplinary team environments and are eager to offer supervision, consultation, and training. This includes fostering psychological and cognitive competencies among the staff in alignment with a matched care strategy. The neuropsychology service operates within Community Care Psychology, a large and nurturing psychology team that provides numerous development opportunities and continuing professional development (CPD).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting neuropsychological evaluations and therapeutic interventions for individuals recovering from a stroke, which may involve family members and caregivers, as well as providing consultation and liaison services.
  • Actively participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to case discussions and care planning with a focus on sharing biopsychosocial formulations and evidence-based practices.
  • Engaging in audit, research, and service enhancement initiatives.
  • Offering formal and informal supervision to other professionals, including trainees, while providing educational opportunities.
  • Delivering clinical expertise and leadership regarding the psychological and cognitive needs of stroke survivors and their families, fostering a culture of support and collaboration within the service and with partner organizations.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc/BA Honours degree at 2:1 or above in Psychology.
  • Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) accredited by the BPS.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through further training and experience, as required by the HCPC and BPS.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Chartered Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling) by the BPS.
  • Registration with HCPC as a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.

Essential Experience

  • Relevant experience specific to the role and clinical area.
  • Experience in multi-agency and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Experience in conducting clinically relevant research.
  • Significant experience in supervised practice, including work with families and care organizations.
  • Experience in assessing and delivering a broad range of psychological interventions to diverse patient populations with varying clinical severity.
  • Experience in exercising clinical responsibility for patients' psychological care and treatment.

Knowledge Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge specific to the role and clinical area.
  • Well-developed psychometric assessment skills.
  • Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of psychological approaches and assessments for individuals with psychological issues, including specialized assessments and interventions.
