Assignment Summary

Objective of the Role

The Lead Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineer is tasked with outlining and disseminating the project scope to guarantee that the execution is conducted safely, punctually, and meets the requisite quality standards. This role is pivotal in delivering design and engineering solutions that align with the technical specifications.

  • Creation of designs that fulfill the technical specifications,
  • Generation of design deliverables throughout the engineering lifecycle,
  • Review and endorsement of discipline-specific design outputs,
  • Participation in design and safety evaluations,
  • Ensuring the quality and timely provision of design documentation across all design phases,
  • Adherence to safety laws and regulatory requirements,
  • Development of cost-efficient technical solutions,
  • Staff training and development,
  • Promotion of a safety-oriented culture,
  • Oversight of contractors,
  • Provision of technical advisory services.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications and Expertise

Occupational Skills and Knowledge

  1. Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience,
  2. Progressing towards, or already holding, Chartership in a relevant engineering institution.

Key Requirements

Essential

  • Strong grasp of fundamental principles within the engineering discipline
  • Extensive experience in two or more of the following EC&I domains:

o Mechanical Handling (including Remote in-cell handling)

o Process Instrumentation

o Understanding of Functional Safety (to BS EN 61508/BS EN 61511)

o Machinery Safety (including BS EN 60204 and BS EN 13849)

o Low Voltage Distribution Systems (including experience in Trimble Pro-design)

· Prior experience in the nuclear sector

  • Familiarity with AWE processes and protocols
  • Demonstrated success in delivering design solutions
  • Comprehension of design requirements and justifications to support nuclear safety cases
  • Solid understanding of safety regulations and statutory requirements
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities
  • Good commercial insight
  • Experience in leading design teams
  • Experience in managing subcontractors

Desirable Attributes

  • Full membership in a relevant engineering institution
  • Understanding of Design Assessment Reports (DAR's)
  • Integration of EC&I design with control systems (PLC/SCADA) is advantageous.
  • Experience in Design Substantiation to support safety cases, including evaluation of new and existing systems.
  • Experience in proposal preparation
  • Current Security Clearance is a plus
