Dorset's SEND service is delivered through a Locality Model, integrating Social Care, Inclusion, and Early Help within the community. Our focus on building relationships ensures a consistent and high-quality service. We take pride in our 'Good' Ofsted rating from the recent IILACS inspection.

As a member of a specialized team of SEND practitioners, you will collaborate with Caseworkers, Family Workers, and Educational Psychologists to support individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. You will also engage with other Locality teams, sharing a commitment to mutual learning and service provision. Our work is guided by four core values:

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will manage your caseload, overseeing all aspects of SEND casework, including drafting and finalizing plans and conducting reviews. You will work with children and young people up to the age of 25 who have various Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Your primary tasks will include:

  • Collaborating with the Team Manager and other professionals to ensure proper assessment and review processes for children with SEND.
  • Working with team members to produce high-quality Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) while adhering to statutory requirements.
  • Ensuring attendance of appropriate professionals at all EHCP reviews.
  • Coordinating with local teams to process EHCP assessment requests promptly.
  • Maintaining accurate electronic records of contact and case management for the EHCP process to ensure consistency across the county.
  • Partnering with the Team Manager and other professionals to effectively manage complex cases.

You will prioritize quality outcomes for children and possess experience working with individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

You will be a motivated and organized team player, capable of managing a complex caseload and adept at prioritizing competing demands.

You will be an effective communicator, skilled in listening and providing constructive challenges when necessary.
