Barnardo's, in collaboration with NHS Oxford Health Trust, is on the lookout for qualified and driven full or part-time Youth Support Specialists to become part of a newly launched initiative in Wiltshire. These specialists will collaborate with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) to provide non-clinical assistance to children and young people, which includes:
- Performing wellbeing evaluations and creating tailored support strategies
- Offering individual and group support for wellbeing (up to 8 sessions)
- Facilitating social prescribing and community navigation
- Providing support within community and educational settings
- Delivering advice and guidance, including self-help resources
This position presents a unique chance to work as a Barnardo's employee, under an honorary NHS contract, contributing to the wellbeing of the youth in the community. Youth Support Specialists will be flexible and responsive to the needs of children and young people, providing assistance in various locations throughout Wiltshire. The CAMHS offices are situated in multiple areas; successful candidates will be assigned a primary work zone to minimize travel.
Candidate Profile:
Essential Qualifications:
- A qualification in a relevant field such as Youth Work, Psychology, Education, Social Care, or an equivalent.
- A willingness to undertake Social Prescribing – Learning for Link Workers Training.
Required Experience:
- Proven experience working with children, young people, and families in mental health or social care environments.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct assessments, develop support plans, and advocate for vulnerable individuals.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Understanding of child and adolescent mental health challenges, including common disorders and symptoms.
- Familiarity with safeguarding protocols to ensure the welfare of children and young people.
- Awareness of local community resources, mental health support services, and referral pathways.
Skills Needed:
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Organizational skills to efficiently manage caseloads, documentation, and reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in IT, including experience with relevant software for recording and reporting purposes.
