This position offers a hybrid working model with occasional international travel, allowing flexibility to operate from any of our UK locations.

Our UK Energy team, part of Buro Happold Cities, comprises over 50 professionals including engineers, scientists, geographers, and commercialization experts. The team engages throughout the project lifecycle, from large-scale spatial energy system analysis to detailed design of innovative district energy and smart grid solutions. Geographically dispersed across London, Leeds, Manchester, and Edinburgh, the team works on local, national, and international projects.

Essential Qualifications
  • Proven experience in energy masterplanning (from concept to detailed design), ideally with a focus on projects in the GCC region.
  • Expertise in large-scale renewable energy systems and high-voltage transmission network design, as well as thermal district energy systems and network design.
  • Proficient in creating clear and engaging reports and technical drawings (e.g., layouts and P&IDs) using AutoCAD and/or 3D modeling software.
  • Capable of conducting thorough optioneering analysis to identify and justify suitable systems, along with the ability to research and evaluate new and emerging technologies, policies, and services in the energy sector.
  • Understanding of the broader engineering disciplines involved in master planning delivery and the ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Degree qualified, preferably in a relevant field such as mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering, energy, physics, or environmental science, with or working towards professional registration (e.g., CIBSE, EI, IMechE, IET).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in conducting techno-economic assessments of energy systems.
  • Familiarity with engaging and collaborating with regulatory bodies in the GCC region.
  • Experience in leading project teams of 5 or more individuals.
  • Proficient in using GIS, EnergyPRO (or similar), or PowerFactory (or similar).
  • Ability to research and assess new technologies, policies, and services in the energy sector.
