Metrology Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Metrology Engineer to join our team at the Institute of the Motor Industry. limited. As a Metrology Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and precision of our products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain calibration standards for Aerospace and IGT product manufacture
  • Program and operate CMM machines for optical and touch trigger measurements
  • Conduct FAIR and component measurements to first principles
  • Ensure calibration readiness at point of use and monitor calibration error frequency
  • Develop and support implementation of NPI project plans
  • Undertake production improvement initiatives and provide critical manufacturing support
  • Produce first article inspection reports and inspect/calibrate fixtures and gauges
  • Work with the Engineering team to develop new engineering projects and promote 'Best practice' tooling design
  • Liaise with internal and external customers on a regular basis
Requirements:
  • Previous experience in dimensional measurement and CMM operation
  • Practical 'hands on' approach and solid IT skills with 3D CAD experience
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, notes, and specifications
  • Excellent 3D visualisation and proven mathematical ability
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to contribute in a team environment
  • Ability to cope with complexity and achieve goals within demanding deadlines
  • Willingness to learn and take on new skills
  • Structured, methodical approach to work tasks and proven problem-solving skills
