About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Safran Engineering Services UK Limited. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative tooling solutions to support our industrialization activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tooling Design and Development: Manage the tooling process from requirements capture through to delivery of final solutions, ensuring that designs meet the required standards and specifications.
  • Collaboration and Support: Work closely with our NPI, Production, and new Process line teams to provide design, development, validation, and commissioning support for special to product tooling.
  • Design and Development of Tooling Concepts: Develop robust designs to support manufacturing processes, including drawings as necessary for manufacture of parts to BS8888 standard.
  • Supply Chain Management: Work with supply chains to achieve effective Cost, Quality, and Delivery needs of the project.
  • Agile Scrum/Sprint Framework: Support tooling process and planning activities within an agile framework to best deliver to the project needs.
  • Design Review and Approval: Peer review, sign-off, design review, and technical approval of tooling designs.
  • Lessons Learned and Continuous Improvement: Feedback lessons learned and continuous improvement to increase operational effectiveness and increase manufacturing process capability.
Requirements
  • Engineering Qualification: Engineering mechanical or manufacturing design qualification either HND, Degree, or Technical Apprenticeships.
  • CAD and PLM Skills: Proficiency in Catia V5 CAD or Siemens NX, and experience with Windchill PLM or Teamcenter.
  • Design for Manufacture and Rapid Prototyping: Knowledge of design for manufacture and rapid prototyping methods.
  • Tooling Design for Production and Automation Lines: Experience in tooling design for production and automation lines.
  • Drawing and GD&T: Proficiency in drawing and GD&T to BS8888 or ISO standards.
  • HSE and Lifting and Handling Standards: Familiarity with HSE tooling and lifting and handling standards.
  • Project Management and Supply Chain Liaison: Basic project management and supply chain liaison skills.
  • Problem Solving and Lean Manufacturing: Ability to work autonomously and proactively, with problem-solving methodologies to determine root cause and corrective actions, and familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles.
